The Kia EV4 has become the first model from the South Korean automaker to qualify for the United Kingdom’s maximum £3,750 Electric Car Grant, reducing the vehicle’s entry-level on-the-road price to £30,995.
Kia UK said the EV4 was upgraded from the grant scheme’s Band 2 category, which provided a £1,500 discount, after additional sustainability documentation was submitted and the vehicle’s European-produced battery underwent reassessment. The incentive is available to both private buyers and fleet customers.
Grant Reduces Entry-Level EV4 Pricing
The maximum grant applies to the EV4 Air Standard Range, Air Long Range and the newly introduced Motion grade.
With the £3,750 incentive applied, the EV4 Air Standard Range, equipped with a 58.3 kWh battery, is priced from £30,995, compared with its original list price of £34,745. The Air Long Range version, featuring an 81.4 kWh battery pack, is available from £33,245 after the grant.
Kia said the updated classification effectively doubles the previous grant support available for eligible EV4 variants.
New Motion Grade Added to Range
The company has also introduced the EV4 Motion grade, positioned between the GT-Line and GT-Line S trims.
The Motion model qualifies for the same £3,750 incentive, bringing its on-the-road price to £36,745 from a list price of £40,495.
The variant is powered by a 201 bhp front-mounted electric motor paired with an 81.4 kWh battery. Standard equipment includes an eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, cloth and artificial leather upholstery, heated outer rear seats, a surround-view monitor, blind-spot view monitor and an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support.
Kia said the Motion grade is offered exclusively as a five-door hatchback and is manufactured at the company’s Žilina production facility in Slovakia.
Four Kia Models Now Eligible for UK Grant
The EV4 joins the EV2, EV3 and PV5 Passenger in Kia’s UK lineup of vehicles that qualify for government electric vehicle incentives.
According to Kia, additional announcements regarding grant eligibility are expected, with Long Range versions of the EV2 anticipated to qualify for the highest Band 1 incentive following the earlier approval of the EV2 First Edition under Band 2.
Sustainability Criteria Shape Grant Eligibility
The UK Electric Car Grant is available only to vehicles that meet specific requirements related to emissions, driving range, sustainability performance and warranty coverage.
Manufacturers participating in the scheme must also have greenhouse-gas reduction targets verified by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), aligning corporate emissions reduction plans with a pathway to net-zero emissions by no later than 2050.
Kia said it plans to offer 15 battery-electric vehicles and 10 hybrid models globally by 2030. The company has also stated that all of its manufacturing facilities are expected to operate using 100% renewable energy by 2040.
