The Kia EV2 has received a five-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), according to an assessment published on October 12, 2026.
The electric small SUV was evaluated across four categories: safe driving, crash avoidance, crash protection and post-crash safety. It scored 74% for safe driving, 66% for crash avoidance, 86% for crash protection and 89% for post-crash safety.
The assessment covers the Kia EV2 Long Range Front-Wheel Drive variant, with the rating also listed as valid for the model range’s tested configurations.
Crash Protection
The Kia EV2 scored 86% in crash protection. Its frontal impact assessment received 86%, while the side impact category scored 98%.
Euro NCAP reported that the vehicle provided good protection for the driver’s chest and the front passenger’s chest during the frontal offset test. Protection for rear occupants was also assessed, with the report identifying differences in performance across seating positions.
In side-impact testing, the EV2 recorded strong results in the side mobile barrier assessment. However, the side pole test identified areas where occupant protection was less comprehensive, including the driver’s chest.
The report also assessed protection against occupant-to-occupant injuries during side impacts. The vehicle’s overall crash protection score reflects the results of these tests, along with rear-impact and vulnerable road user assessments.
Crash Avoidance Systems
The Kia EV2 scored 66% in crash avoidance, covering its ability to detect and respond to potential collisions involving vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
The assessment examined autonomous emergency braking in different scenarios, including rear-end collisions, junction manoeuvres and interactions with vulnerable road users. Performance varied across the individual tests.
The vehicle recorded a range of results in pedestrian and cyclist scenarios, including assessments involving road crossings, turning manoeuvres and vehicles moving in the same direction. Euro NCAP also evaluated lane departure collisions and low-speed collision avoidance.
The EV2’s safety equipment includes autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, low-speed braking functions and cyclist dooring prevention.
Safe Driving Assessment
The Kia EV2 received 74% in the safe driving category, which evaluates occupant monitoring, driver engagement and vehicle assistance systems.
The assessment recorded full scores for correct seatbelt routing and rear-seat occupancy monitoring. However, child presence detection received no points in the relevant assessment, and the passenger airbag status indicator achieved a limited score.
Driver engagement was assessed at 78%, covering distraction detection, impairment monitoring and driving controls. The vehicle received full scores for driving controls and comfort and infotainment functions.
The vehicle assistance category scored 75%. While steering assistance received full marks in its assessment, lane change assistance received no points. Speed assistance and adaptive cruise control were also evaluated.
Post-Crash Safety
The Kia EV2 scored 89% in post-crash safety, covering rescue information, post-crash intervention and vehicle extrication.
Euro NCAP assessed the availability of rescue sheets and rescue guides, both of which received full scores. The assessment also covered the advanced eCall system, hazard light activation, energy management and occupant extrication.
The EV2 achieved full scores for energy management and occupant extrication. Its advanced eCall system received 50%, while hazard light activation scored 80%.
Rating and Model Details
The five-star rating was published on October 12, 2026. The assessed model is identified as the Kia EV2 Long Range Front-Wheel Drive, classified as a small SUV.
The Euro NCAP report lists electric versions with 42 kWh and 51 kWh battery capacities, with power outputs of 107 kW and 99.5 kW respectively. Both configurations are listed with front-wheel drive.
The assessment provides results across crash protection, collision avoidance, driver monitoring and post-crash safety. Although the EV2 recorded its highest category scores in crash protection and post-crash safety, its crash avoidance score was lower, reflecting differences in performance across the individual tests.
