Kia is set to release a high-performance version of their EV9 SUV in 2025, aiming to redefine what performance means in an electric SUV. The EV9 was revealed with a dual-motor version that could only do the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in a fairly average 6.0 seconds, disappointing some potential buyers. However, Kia has confirmed that engineers are working on a hotter GT version that will debut in the next two years.
Kia Motors President and CEO Ho Sung Song confirmed that the company had recognized the demand for high-performance electric vehicles and is developing a high-performance version of the EV9. He said, “Building on the success of the Kia EV6 GT, we are happy to announce that we are currently developing a high-performance version of the EV9, which will aim to redefine what performance means in an electric SUV. We plan to release the GT version of the EV9 in early 2025.”

While official specs of the EV9 GT have not been released, it is expected to borrow from the acclaimed EV6 GT, which features a combined 576 hp (429 kW) and 545 lb-ft (738 Nm) of torque with a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup. If the same configuration were to migrate to the EV9 GT, the large performance-oriented SUV should be capable of achieving a sub-4.0-second 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time, but at the loss of range.
As the demand for high-performance electric vehicles continues to grow, Kia is committed to meeting the expectations of their customers. The EV9 GT is expected to be a game-changer in the electric SUV market, and more details are expected to be released closer to its launch date in early 2025.
