Last year, SsangYong Motor was acquired by KG Group, marking a new beginning for the South Korean automaker. Now, the company has changed its name to KG Mobility, reflecting its renewed focus on electric vehicles, self-driving technology, and artificial intelligence. The brand is set to debut 16 concepts and production vehicles at the upcoming Seoul Mobility Show on March 30, giving us a glimpse into its exciting future.
The decision to change the name to KG Mobility was made at a general shareholders’ meeting held in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, on Wednesday. The company’s new twin-ring logo has already been applied to some of the existing SUVs, and its promotional material will feature the slogan “Go Different. KG Mobility”.

KG Mobility aims to expand its operations beyond traditional automobile manufacturing and sales, becoming a mobility firm that focuses on cutting-edge technologies in the automotive industry. This includes EV-dedicated platforms, SDVs (Software Defined Vehicles), self-driving cars, and artificial intelligence. The brand will also venture into new business sectors, selling certified used cars from the second half of the year, and special-purpose vehicles in the near future.
At the Seoul Mobility Show, we can expect to see the new Torres EVX production model, as well as three more EVs likely to be concepts, called KR10, O100, and F100. The brand is also likely to showcase modified versions of some of its existing models. After the debuts, the KG Mobility Design Contest will help the brand decide on its future design language, with the winning proposals set to be announced in June.

This is not the first time SsangYong Motor has changed its name. Originally founded in 1954 as Ha Dong-Hwan Motor, it was renamed Dong-A Motor in 1977, before finally becoming SsangYong Motor in 1988. The brand has passed under the control of Daewoo Group, SAIC, and Mahindra over the past 35 years. After a long search for buyers and a failed takeover by Edison Motors, SsangYong went bankrupt before being saved by KG Group, who bought the majority stake in August 2022.
With its new focus on cutting-edge technologies and mobility solutions, KG Mobility is poised to make a significant impact on the automotive industry. As we eagerly await its debut at the Seoul Mobility Show, we can only imagine what the future holds for this exciting brand.
