Kawasaki has signed an agreement with the world’s largest automaker, Toyota, to cooperate in the development of a hydrogen engine for motorcycles.

While Kawasaki is known to be active in developing alternative and sustainable engines for motorcycles, this new alliance with Toyota will take it a step further.

Although already at an advanced stage when it comes to hydrogen technology, Kawasaki wants a new deal with Toyota to help accelerate the process of developing this hydrogen engine.

In addition, Toyota recently launched the Toyota Mirai, the world’s first commercially available hydrogen fuel cell car, of which more than 2,600 units have been sold globally.

Reportedly, the two sides agreed to an agreement earlier this month. Toyota president Akio Toyoda rides a hydrogen-powered Kawasaki ATV at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit, marking the agreement that both parties have signed.

“Team Green” showcased its first electric and hybrid motorcycles recently at the Suzuka 8 Hours. Both of these bikes are confirmed to debut between the end of this year or early next year.
