Ionity has unveiled its inaugural high-power charging (HPC) hub in Northern Ireland, situated at the Toome Motorway Service Station. This milestone development, featuring six cutting-edge 350 kW charge points, underscores Ionity’s commitment to fostering sustainable mobility in the region.
Andreas Atkins, Ionity’s Country Manager for the UK and Ireland, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “Opening our first site in Northern Ireland is an exciting nod to our investment in the country to help decarbonise mobility and make EV charging accessible to everyone visiting or living in Northern Ireland.”

The Toome hub, strategically positioned just off the A6 motorway connecting Derry/Londonderry with Belfast, represents a significant step forward in bolstering the EV charging infrastructure along vital transportation corridors. Ionity has further revealed plans for additional charge points at the Toome site, with construction already underway for another hub at The Kennedy Centre in Belfast.
“Ionity’s expansion into Northern Ireland demonstrates our dedication to facilitating the widespread adoption of electric vehicles by providing convenient and efficient charging solutions,” Atkins emphasized.
Collaborating with Ionity on this venture, NIE Networks, a key player in the region’s energy landscape, expressed its commitment to supporting the transition towards cleaner transportation. Ian Craig, Major Projects Stakeholder Lead at NIE Networks, remarked, “NIE Networks is delighted to play our part in helping Northern Ireland move towards Net Zero by connecting the first high-powered EV Charging site in Toome.”

Ionity’s expansion into Northern Ireland builds on its existing presence in Ireland, where the company operates a charging network in collaboration with Circle K in the southern region of the island.
