In a bid to ramp up electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure across the USA, Invisible Urban Charging (IUC) has joined forces with the CBRE Group. The ambitious plan aims to deploy one million EV chargers over the next five years, targeting properties currently under CBRE’s management.
Founded in 2019, IUC specializes in charging infrastructure, while CBRE is a leading provider of commercial property services and investment. Under the partnership, CBRE will handle site selection, project management, installation, and maintenance services. On the other hand, IUC will finance the project, supply charging hardware and software, and manage operations through its Charging-as-a-Service platform.
Nigel Broomhall, CEO and co-founder of IUC, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting its potential to accelerate the shift towards electric transport. He described the collaboration as the largest EV charging-as-a-service deal worldwide, set to redefine the EV charging landscape while enhancing property values.
John Belbusti, Global President, Project Management & Electric Vehicle Solutions at CBRE, emphasized his company’s commitment to supporting IUC in driving the electrification of transport. He highlighted CBRE’s expertise in site selection, project and construction management, facility maintenance, as well as its strong relationships with utilities and permitting authorities.
CBRE’s foray into the EV charging space began in 2019 with the installation of charging infrastructure. Additionally, the company made headlines in early 2023 with a deal with Californian startup Forum Mobility. This agreement saw CBRE Investment Management and Homecoming Capital establishing a USD 400 million joint venture to build charging depots for heavy-duty electric trucks in California.
