InstaVolt has agreed to acquire 228 electric vehicle charging locations from Equans, expanding its nationwide charging network and increasing its presence across the United Kingdom.

The transaction includes more than 260 existing chargers located at local authority car parks, motorway service areas, retail destinations and hospitality venues. Following the acquisition, InstaVolt said it will operate more than 4,250 chargers across approximately 1,200 locations.

Network to Undergo Major Upgrades

The company said the newly acquired charging sites will be rebranded and modernized over the next 12 months.

Before the acquisition, InstaVolt operated or had under construction more than 4,000 chargers across over 950 locations, including its 30-charger superhub on the A303 in Wiltshire.

As part of the refurbishment program, the company plans to strengthen grid connections, install battery energy storage systems, improve site signage and deploy BYD Flash Charging technology.

InstaVolt also intends to expand the number of charging units at the acquired sites from more than 260 to over 400.

According to the company, the upgraded locations will provide the same features available across its existing network, including contactless payment and a reported operational uptime exceeding 99%.

Company Targets National Charging Growth

Delvin Lane, Chief Executive Officer of InstaVolt, said the acquisition marks an important step in expanding the country’s public charging infrastructure.

“This transaction represents a major milestone for InstaVolt and for the UK EV charging industry. By surpassing 1,200 locations, we become the first charge point operator in the UK to operate more than 1,000 sites nationwide.”

He added:

“It is a clear statement of our commitment to building the public charging network the country needs as it makes the switch to electric.”

The acquisition reflects continued investment in the UK’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure as operators expand capacity to support the growing adoption of battery-electric vehicles nationwide.
