Spanish utility company Iberdrola plans to install 1,000 new electric vehicle (EV) charging points across eleven autonomous communities in Spain as part of a partnership with supermarket chain Eroski, the companies announced on Tuesday.
The new charging points, to be operational over the next three years, will be located at around 300 of Eroski’s locations and will include workplaces, supermarket car parks, and petrol stations. The rollout will begin with equipping Eroski petrol stations with charging points in the project’s first phase.

The charging points will offer a variety of charger powers, allowing users to charge their cars while shopping. According to a press release, the charging capacities could range from AC to DC to High-Power Charging, enabling users to charge 100 km in as little as 6 minutes to 45 minutes.
Javier España, Eroski’s Development Director, commented, “Through this agreement with Iberdrola España, we will contribute to creating a quality EV charging network, thus expanding our services available to consumers.”
David Martínez, Director of Iberdrola Clientes España, highlighted the importance of collaboration in sustainable mobility, stating, “The Eroski group is a clear ally in advancing the implementation of charging points in places where users go on a daily basis so that they can charge while shopping or while working.”

The initiative is part of Iberdrola’s Sustainable Mobility Plan, which aims to install 100,000 charging stations in homes, businesses, and along public roads by 2025. The company recently announced the installation of 2,000 AC charging points at around 450 locations of the Spanish supermarket chain Mercadona, with plans to install up to 3,500 such charging points at 800 Mercadona locations in Spain and Portugal.
Iberdrola currently has a network of over 50,000 charging points, of which only 6,500 are publicly accessible.
