Hyundai Motor Company unveiled its latest all-electric vehicle, the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric, at the New York International Auto Show on Wednesday. The company claims that the compact SUV will have an estimated range of up to 260 miles, along with advanced safety and convenience features.
The Kona Electric model was first introduced by Hyundai in 2018 and quickly became popular among the public and media. However, with new electric vehicles entering the market, such as the Chevy Bolt EUV and the Tesla Model Y, the Kona Electric began to lose ground.

To regain its standing, Hyundai refreshed the Kona Electric in 2022 with a new front fascia and a more minimalist, aerodynamic grille. Now, for the 2024 model year, the company has taken things a step further by adopting an “EV-led” design, with a boldly rugged exterior and a drag coefficient of just 0.27.
The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric also boasts a larger “living space” on the inside, with a floating C-pad featuring dual 12.3-inch panoramic display screens. The front seats are 30% slimmer to provide more legroom for rear passengers.
Hyundai has released the 2024 Kona Electric specs for North America, with two versions available. The standard version features a 48.6 kWh battery with 133 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque, while the longer-range model uses a 64.8 kWh battery with 201 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque. The electric SUV can be recharged from 10% to 80% in around 43 minutes with 400V fast charge capability, according to the company.

José Muñoz, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, said in a statement, “The new Kona Electric represents the next step forward in eco-friendly mobility solutions, a key model in Hyundai’s rapid transition to clean mobility and progress for humanity.”
The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric will be available at US dealerships later this year, with deliveries scheduled for next year.
