Hyundai Motor is intensifying its push into overseas markets with its new flagship electric SUV, the Ioniq 9, as the three-row EV begins deliveries in the United States, Europe, and South Korea. Despite high expectations for the model at launch, the Ioniq 9 has encountered limited traction in the South Korean market, prompting the automaker to shift its focus toward international expansion.
According to NewsIs, Hyundai is preparing a “full-scale attack” on the European market as part of its broader export strategy. Since April, the company has steadily increased shipments of the Ioniq 9, exporting 539 units in April, 1,482 in May, and 1,781 in June. These shipments support the planned launch of the vehicle in Europe, where it will be priced from £64,995 ($87,500). Hyundai sees global markets as essential to the success of the Ioniq 9, especially as demand softens at home.

The Ioniq 9 features a 110 kWh battery and offers a WLTP-estimated range of up to 385 miles, with an EPA rating of up to 335 miles. Designed as a premium three-row SUV, it targets families looking for a larger all-electric vehicle, and is part of Hyundai’s ongoing effort to expand its Ioniq sub-brand internationally.
Hyundai is also leveraging a dual-track production strategy to meet global demand. In the United States, the Ioniq 9 is being built at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) facility in Georgia, alongside the refreshed 2025 Ioniq 5. Production volumes at the plant reached 2,382 units in May and 1,803 units in June, supporting Hyundai’s plans to strengthen its presence in the North American EV market.

While sales in South Korea have declined—from 1,009 units in April to 767 in June—Hyundai continues to maintain its U.S. pricing. The company recently announced that lease rates for the 2026 Ioniq 9 will start at $419 per month. Additional buyer incentives include a free ChargePoint Level 2 home charger for those who lease or purchase a new Ioniq 9 or 2025 Ioniq 5.
As Hyundai shifts its strategy to prioritize international markets, the automaker is relying on European and U.S. sales to support the Ioniq 9’s global rollout. With production and exports gaining momentum, the Ioniq 9 is positioned to become a key model in Hyundai’s expanding electric vehicle lineup.
