Hyundai Motor Company presented the new NEXO fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) and the INSTEROID concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, highlighting its ongoing developments in hydrogen and electrified mobility.
The event marked Hyundai’s most extensive public presentation in Japan to date, as the company continues to expand its presence in the market and demonstrate its hydrogen technology.

The second-generation NEXO features an improved fuel cell system, providing a driving range of more than 826 kilometers (WLTP) on a full hydrogen refill that takes about five minutes.
The vehicle includes advanced driver assistance systems such as Highway Driving Assist and Remote Smart Parking Assist, as well as an interior designed with eco-friendly materials.

Hyundai also showcased its Hydrogen Journey Zone, which outlined the company’s hydrogen value chain under the HTWO brand — from production and storage to vehicle applications. Alongside its hydrogen models, Hyundai exhibited electric vehicles including the Ioniq 5, INSTER Cross, and the INSTEROID concept, described as a design study exploring digital and interactive mobility themes.
Yoo Seok Chung, Executive Vice President at Hyundai Motor Company, said the new NEXO will be introduced in Japan in 2026. He noted that the company aims to offer a range of electrified and hydrogen-powered models suited to the Japanese market. Hyundai also plans to increase local engagement through initiatives such as Hyundai Motor Club Japan.
