Hyundai Motor Group plans to significantly increase its production of electric vehicles (EVs) in the coming year as it works to transform itself into a provider of future mobility solutions.

In a statement, Executive Chair Euisun Chung said the company will make “aggressive” investments in new technologies and hire talented individuals in new growth sectors in an effort to become a market leader in the future mobility industry.

“The company will make an aggressive investment to hire proven talents in new-growth business sectors and develop new technologies to become the first mover that leads the future mobility market,” said Euisun Chung

Last year, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 won the 2022 World Car of the Year award, and the Kia EV6 was named the 2022 European Car of the Year, marking the beginning of the group’s shift towards electrification.

Hyundai plans to launch a Level 3 autonomous car in the domestic market this year, and will introduce Level 3 autonomous driving models for the Genesis G90 and Kia EV9 in the first half of the year.

The group also plans to begin commercializing Level 4 IONIQ 5-based robo taxi services through its joint venture with US mobility startup Aptiv, Motional, in the US. In 2025, Hyundai aims to release most of its new vehicles as “software defined vehicles” and regularly update the performance and functions of all vehicles sold globally that year.
