Hyundai Motor Group Sees 60.8% Increase in U.S. EV Sales for First Half of 2024

Hyundai Motor Group reported a significant rise in its electric vehicle (EV) sales in the United States, with a 60.8% increase in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year.

According to a report by the Korea Automobile & Mobility Association (KAMA), the group sold approximately 61,843 EVs across its Hyundai Motor, Kia, and Genesis brands in the first half of 2024.

This marks a substantial rise from the 38,457 EVs sold during the same period in 2023. Including plug-in hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, Hyundai Motor Group’s eco-friendly car sales reached 72,528 units, representing a 46.4% year-over-year increase.

Hyundai Motor Group’s combined market share in the U.S. EV market is estimated at 10.2%, up from 7.4% in 2023. Last year, the combined EV sales of Hyundai and Kia positioned Hyundai Motor Group as the second best-selling automaker in the U.S. EV market, behind Tesla.

“Hyundai Motor and Genesis brands sold approximately 32,592 EVs in the United States in the first half of 2024, up by 32.5% year-over-year,” KAMA reported. Meanwhile, Kia saw a 111% increase in its EV sales, with 29,251 units sold during the same period.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 have been key contributors to the company’s strong sales performance. The Ioniq 5 was the fourth best-selling EV in the U.S., with 18,728 units sold, while the Kia EV6 ranked 10th with 10,941 units sold. The Kia EV9 closely followed, securing 11th place with 9,671 units sold.

Despite Tesla’s significant lead in the U.S. EV market, Hyundai Motor Group has been making steady progress in closing the gap this year.
