Hyundai has introduced a new “outdoor-focused” variant of its Inster EV, called the Inster EV Cross, with prices starting at £28,745 ($35,000) in the UK. This new model builds on the Inster EV’s initial success, offering additional features designed for adventure seekers, making it a rugged option in the electric SUV market.
The Inster EV, Hyundai’s first small electric SUV, debuted last June as the European counterpart to the Casper Electric, which is sold in South Korea. While the base model is priced around $27,000 (€25,000) in Europe, the Inster EV Cross comes with a £2,000 ($2,500) premium over the Inster 02 trim. Notable updates for the Cross variant include 17-inch alloy wheels, bold bumpers, side skirts, black cladding, roof rails, and full projection LED headlights, along with a unique color palette featuring Amazonas Green Matte and more. Inside, it boasts dual 10.25-inch displays with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
The Inster EV Cross is powered by a 49 kWh battery that offers a WLTP range of up to 223 miles, along with a 115 hp (85.5 kW) motor. Hyundai has equipped the vehicle with battery heating and a heat pump to optimize range and charging efficiency, though it remains a front-wheel-drive model, without the option for all-wheel drive. Hyundai President for the UK, Ashley Andrew, stated that the new Cross model “only furthers the versatility and appeal” of the Inster EV, reinforcing the company’s focus on electrification leadership.
The Inster EV Cross is now available for order in the UK, with deliveries expected to begin by May. This launch follows the introduction of the Inster EV in Japan, Hyundai’s most affordable electric vehicle in the region, priced at approximately $18,000 (2,849,000 yen).
