Hyundai Collaborates with Mapbox to Integrate Advanced Navigation and AI Voice Assistant in EVs

Hyundai Autoever, Hyundai’s software division, is joining forces with Mapbox to introduce new features in Hyundai’s electric vehicles (EVs). The collaboration aims to integrate 3D navigation and an AI voice assistant named MapGPT to enhance the overall driving experience.

Hyundai and Mapbox have successfully demonstrated the viability of the AI solution and are now progressing towards commercialization. MapGPT, powered by Mapbox location data, is designed to provide dynamic routing for traffic avoidance and real-time weather warnings, facilitating a seamless travel experience.

The AI voice assistant will serve as the centerpiece for a digitally enhanced vision for Hyundai EVs, offering in-car functionality and compatibility with a smartphone app for continuous connectivity. Users can leverage voice commands to control various functions such as windows, climate control, and music.

The collaboration extends to partnerships with service providers like OpenTable and TripAdvisor, enabling users to book restaurant seats, explore new dining options, and access additional services through voice commands.

Dongkwon Suh, Head of Navigation at Hyundai Autoever, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Mapbox, highlighting its potential to shape the future of Hyundai’s in-vehicle experiences.

Hyundai achieved a new sales record in the US in 2023, driven by the increasing demand for its EV lineup. With nearly 47,000 IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 EVs sold in the US last year, Hyundai, including Kia and Genesis, is expanding its presence with a focus on EVs.

The automaker recently updated the Kona EV for 2024, enhancing its design and affordability. Hyundai, with plans to be a top three EV producer by 2030, aims to stay ahead in the competitive EV market by continuously upgrading the driving experience and introducing cutting-edge features.

This announcement follows Toyota’s disclosure of its intent to leverage Mapbox’s platform, emphasizing the growing significance of advanced navigation and AI technologies in the automotive industry.
