South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia marked a strong performance in the U.S. market in 2024, setting new sales records. Both companies are poised for further growth in 2025, driven by new electric vehicle (EV) offerings and expanding production capabilities.

Kia, continuing its upward trajectory, posted its seventh consecutive year of sales growth, with nearly 797,000 vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2024. This represents the companyā€™s second straight year of breaking its annual sales record. “This accomplishment validates that our strategy is working to further elevate the Kia brand,” said Sean Yoon, CEO of Kia North America.

Kiaā€™s growing EV lineup, particularly the launch of the EV9, contributed significantly to this success. The EV9, a three-row electric SUV, surpassed expectations, with over 22,000 units sold in 2024. This performance eclipsed the sales of its first dedicated EV, the EV6, which sold 21,715 units.

Hyundai also reported a record year, selling more than 836,800 vehicles in the U.S. in 2024, a 4% increase year-over-year. The company credited the growing demand for its EVs as a key driver of its success.

The IONIQ 5, Hyundaiā€™s flagship electric SUV, remained one of the top-selling EVs in the U.S., with 44,400 units sold, reflecting a 31% increase from 2023. “We are confident this momentum will continue,” said Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor North America. He attributed this optimism to “exciting new models like the IONIQ 9 and increased U.S. production ramping up” at Hyundaiā€™s new EV plant in Georgia, which began producing vehicles in October 2024.

The increased production capacity is expected to further fuel demand, with five Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis EV models qualifying for the U.S. federal tax credit for the first time.

Hyundai has also improved the IONIQ 5 for the 2025 model year, offering more range and enhanced features, including the ability to charge at Tesla Superchargers. The 2025 IONIQ 5 is priced starting at $42,500 with a range of up to 245 miles, while the long-range model, priced at $46,550, offers up to 318 miles, an improvement over the previous model.

With expanded production and new models on the horizon, both Hyundai and Kia are poised to maintain strong growth in the U.S. EV market in 2025.
