Huawei will roll out a new partnership structure with automakers this year, giving carmakers more control while maintaining the tech group’s deep involvement in vehicle development, Chinese media outlet Caijing reported on Monday.

The model differs from Huawei Inside, where the company mainly sells technology, and from brand co-creation ventures with automakers. Under the new structure, automakers will take the lead while Huawei contributes technologies such as its HarmonyOS operating system and Qiankun smart driving systems, the report said, citing sources close to Huawei’s intelligent automotive business unit.

The approach has yet to receive an official name, but some pilot projects have referred to it as “HI Plus,” Caijing reported. Dongfeng Motor’s premium M-Hero brand is among the first to apply the model, with its recently launched M817 SUV incorporating Huawei’s cockpit and driver-assist technologies.

Huawei is also prioritizing its Zhixuan model under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), which has produced brands with partners including SAIC Motor, Seres Group, Chery, BAIC Group, and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group. HIMA vehicles delivered 44,579 units in August, pushing cumulative sales past 900,000, with an average transaction price of 380,000 yuan ($53,210), the company said.
