Honda together with LG Energy Solution will build a battery factory in Ohio, United States. The planned development of the plant in Fayette County, Ohio, about 40 miles southwest of Columbus, will cost a total of $3.5 billion.
“Honda has been building electric hybrid vehicles in Ohio for several years, and the experience and expertise of our manufacturing partners. Product development and purchasing will be critical foundations as we transition into the (electric) future,” said Bob Nelson, Executive Vice President of American Honda Motor Co.
The plant development is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Later, the plant will have a maximum annual production capacity of 40 GWh and will be run by 2,200 employees.
Not only that, Honda will also invest 700 million USD to complete the electrification preparations at three factories in Ohio.
Like one of them in the Anna engine factory, from the investment results Honda will produce battery casings that will be combined with the battery modules produced at the JV battery factory in new vehicles produced in two other car factories.
