Hertz has announced a public-private partnership with the US city of Atlanta to expand the availability of electric vehicles (EVs) in the area. Through the ‘Hertz Electrifies Atlanta’ program, an additional 4,000 EVs will be made available to private and business customers, as well as rideshare drivers. Atlanta will become home to Hertz’s third largest EV fleet in the United States as a result of this partnership.
One of the key goals of the initiative is to accelerate the adoption of EVs in the city, which is a crucial location for EV rideshare driving. Hertz is partnering with Uber to promote the use of EVs among rideshare drivers. The two companies will set up eight public fast-charging stations at the ‘Hertz Uber Rental and EV Charging Location’ near the city’s international airport to support EV usage for ridesharing services.

The partnership is part of Hertz’s national initiative, ‘Hertz Electrifies,’ which aims to support the transition to electric vehicles while creating economic opportunity and environmental benefits for communities. In addition to expanding the availability of EVs, Hertz is also partnering with the Atlanta College and Career Academy (ACCA) to provide education and training opportunities on electric mobility as part of the college’s auto servicing curriculum. Hertz will donate a Chevy Volt to the program and help provide summer jobs through Atlanta’s ‘Summer Youth Employment Program.’
“This initiative will help ensure our students have access to a high-growth industry and be part of our green energy future,” says Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Lisa Herring adds that “access to hands-on experience with the latest technology is critical for Atlanta Public Schools scholars as we prepare them for careers we can’t even begin to imagine.

Atlanta is the third US city to partner with Hertz on a public-private initiative of this kind. Denver, Colorado, and Houston, Texas, signed similar partnerships in January and March of this year. By working with local communities to expand access to EVs and provide education and training opportunities, Hertz is helping to build a more sustainable future for cities across the United States.
