Hamm, a manufacturer in road-building, gardening, and landscaping equipment, unveils its latest innovation: a full line of eight new battery-powered electric tandem compact rollers. This rollout marks a significant advancement in the construction industry, offering environmentally friendly solutions with no compromise on performance.

Launching this week for North American customers, the HD 10e and HD 12e models stand out as prime examples of Hamm’s commitment to sustainability without sacrificing power. These electric rollers deliver the same level of compaction force as their combustion engine counterparts but with the added benefits of reduced noise and zero local emissions.

Earlier this year, Hamm conducted pilot tests with Skanska, where the new e-rollers proved to operate almost identically to other models in the HD CompactLine series. This successful trial validated the efficacy and usability of the electric rollers in real-world construction scenarios.

Hamm’s electric rollers feature oscillation drums, including the E-combination rollers with oscillation. The company highlights that the electrical components in these new models are completely maintenance-free. Moreover, extensive electrification across various systems reduces the vehicle’s total oil volume by more than 70% compared to ICE versions. Additionally, the electric rollers boast enhanced longevity due to minimal wear parts that need greasing or risk contamination with abrasive materials like sand or silt.

The vibration/oscillation units on the new Hamm models are powered by compact synchronous electric motors. Separate electric drive and steering motors enable efficient operation of the hydraulic system.

All new rollers come equipped with a 48V, 23.4 kWh li-ion battery, providing sufficient energy for driving, steering, and compacting throughout a full workday. Charging from 0% to 100% takes approximately four hours using a standard NEMA (L2) outlet.

This groundbreaking introduction signifies Hamm’s dedication to advancing sustainable practices within the construction industry while maintaining high standards of performance and reliability. With these new electric rollers, Hamm aims to set a new standard for eco-conscious road-building and landscaping operations.
