Gogoro Launches Battery-Swapping Electric Scooters in Colombia

Gogoro, the Taiwanese electric scooter pioneer, has officially launched its innovative battery-swapping system in Colombia. Teaming up with Colombian fuel company Terpel, Gogoro’s entry into the South American market kicks off in BogotĂĄ, the capital city, under Terpel’s Voltex brand.

The collaboration with Terpel marks a significant step in Gogoro’s expansion plans, following its earlier announcement this year to enter both the Colombian and Chilean markets. Gogoro’s battery-swapping technology has gained widespread acclaim, enabling users to swap depleted batteries with fully charged ones at public stations.

This system supports various electric scooter models, including Gogoro’s own scooters, as well as models from Yamaha, Aeon, and other manufacturers. Gogoro has even showcased electric three-wheelers and minicars utilizing its battery technology.

Initially, Gogoro will introduce its 2 Plus and Vivamix Smartscooters in Colombia, leveraging Terpel’s existing infrastructure to set up battery swapping stations at four locations in BogotĂĄ. The partnership aims to expand to a total of 14 stations by the end of 2024, with plans to extend services to other Colombian cities like MedellĂn.

Commenting on the partnership, Horace Luke, founder and CEO of Gogoro, expressed excitement about collaborating with Terpel, stating, “Gogoro and Terpel share a common vision for accelerating the shift to two-wheel sustainable transportation in Colombia and across Latin America.” He highlighted the convenience and efficiency of Gogoro’s battery-swapping system, which has already facilitated over 590 million swaps and continues to perform more than 400,000 swaps daily.
