Leading battery-swapping electric scooter manufacturer, Gogoro, has announced a strategic collaboration with Apple to incorporate key Apple features directly into its scooters. The partnership will enable Gogoro Smartscooter riders to leverage NFC keyless unlocking and Apple Wallet, allowing users to activate and lock their scooters directly from their iPhone or Apple Watch.

Owners of Gogoro Smartscooters can now add a scooter key to Apple Wallet on their iOS devices, simplifying the unlocking and starting process by holding the device near the scooter’s NFC-enabled reader. The feature is not limited to new scooters but is also backward compatible with over 300,000 electric scooters already on the road.

In addition to keyless unlocking, Gogoro is working with Apple to integrate location tracking through Apple Find My. This feature will enable SmartScooter owners to locate their scooters directly from their phones and mark them as lost if needed. The Find My integration will initially be available on specific new Smartscooter models, starting with the Gogoro CrossOver S, with plans to expand it to the entire Gogoro portfolio in the future.

The collaboration aims to enhance user convenience and utility, allowing owners to seamlessly share their digital keys with friends or family through messaging applications. Gogoro’s founder and CEO, Horace Luke, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and its positive impact on culture.

The integration of these Apple features represents another hardware improvement for Gogoro, complementing recent model launches and international expansion announcements. While Gogoro’s Smartscooters gain attention, the company’s battery-swapping design remains integral to its success. The open platform allows various manufacturers to build electric scooters relying on Gogoro’s swappable battery standard, providing riders with diverse vehicle options within the established battery-swapping infrastructure.
