Indian start-up GO EC Autotech has announced its ambitious plan to install 1,000 DC chargers across the country, aiming to address the lack of charging infrastructure and facilitate the widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). The company intends to strategically position these chargers in both urban and remote areas, ensuring accessibility for people residing in more distant regions.

P G Ramnath, the CEO and Executive Director of GO EC, highlighted the significant challenge faced by EV owners due to the inadequate charging infrastructure, particularly hindering long-distance travel. Recognizing this barrier, the company is determined to bridge the gap by expanding its charging network.

Currently based in Kerala, a state located on India’s southern tip, GO EC already operates 103 EV chargers throughout the country, with a majority situated in Kerala itself. Building upon this foundation, the start-up plans to extend its presence by targeting state capitals, state highways, national highways, Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, as well as rural areas.

In a recent statement, the company stated, “With the new project, we plan to expand our footprint by strategically positioning the charging stations in capitals, state highways, and national highways along with Tier-2, and Tier-3 cities and rural places in the country.” By strategically selecting these locations, GO EC aims to alleviate the concerns of EV owners regarding long-distance travel, encouraging more individuals to embrace electric vehicles.

To facilitate the installation of public EV chargers, the Indian government supports such initiatives through its FAME 2 (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) program, which will remain active until May 31, 2024. This initiative plays a crucial role in fostering the development of electric mobility infrastructure across the nation.
