The global automotive trend that is starting to focus on electrified vehicles or EVs has made the majority of manufacturers start competing to present various products and platforms that support EV. One of them is a manufacturer from the United States, General Motors which continues to develop a new platform called Ultium.
As reported by Autocar on Thursday (28/7/2022), President and Managing Director of GM Europe, Mahmoud Samara said that one of their targets is to become an important player for the electric vehicle market in Europe. One of the steps is to sell the first product with the Ultium Platform, the Cadillac Lyriq.
The car, which was launched on May 19, 2022, has so far shown very positive orders. In fact, because of the large number of car enthusiasts, the available quota stock has been sold out at least for this year. Seeing this, Samara said that the positive response to the car shows that the public sees GM as a brand that is serious about developing electric cars.
As is known, GM will indeed begin to focus on developing electric cars or EVs starting in 2023. GM has even spent billions of dollars in investment funds in order to achieve success in this EV segment. One of them is the development of the Ultium platform which will target consumers on the European continent.
Later, in addition to the Cadilac Lyriq SUV that has been sold, the Ultium platform will also present various other products. Among them, such as the GMC Hummer EV, which will also use the Ultium platform. Samara also mentioned that several products under the auspices of GM such as Chevrolet, Cadillac, and Hummer will use this platform and present various EV products in various segments.
âDevelopment of the Ultium platform is in line with the goals of the European Union, which really wants to direct the market to the electric car segment. It is hoped that with the transition that we are currently carrying out towards EV, GM will become one of the leading manufacturers in presenting a variety of quality EV products, especially on the European continent,â added Samara.
Samara also mentioned that GM Europe will not stop in the development of the Ultium platform alone. In the future, GM will also present a variety of quality products and services, especially for the electric car segment with a business plan that they have prepared carefully.
