GM restarted production on the Bolt EV and EUV on April 4 after a year out of production due to problems with LG-made battery cells.
GM spokesman Kevin Kelly said “production of the Bolt EV/EUV resumed today, as planned… we are delighted that The Bolt EV/EUV is back on the market,” as reported by the Detroit News.
In August, GM recalled all Bolt EVs and EUVs due to a defect in the battery that caused the fire. LG had to pay $2 billion for defects in the Bolt EV and EUV batteries. As a result, GM had to stop production of the Bolt EV and EUV while waiting for the batteries to be defect-free.
In February, GM said they would restart production of the Bolt EV and EUV in April – and now, they have finally done it on April 4.
GM previously announced that it would release at least 20 new models by 2023. By the end of 2021 they had started delivering the Hummer EV to their customers.
GM has also showcased the Equinox EV, Sierra EV, and Silverado EV earlier this year which will be their mainstay in competing in the electric vehicle market. They also started production of the Cadillac Lyriq.
