GM Defense, a subsidiary of General Motors, is set to reveal its new “Next Gen” tactical vehicle prototype at the Association of the US Army’s (AUSA) annual meeting and exposition, taking place from October 14 to 16, 2024.
Based on the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD ZR2, the Next Gen vehicle integrates advanced hybrid technology tailored for military applications.
The tactical vehicle features a military-grade diesel-hybrid propulsion system, combining GM’s 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel engine with a 102 kWh Ultium 12-module battery pack. It is equipped with a GMC HUMMER EV motor on the front axle and an eBeam rear axle, enabling capabilities such as Silent Drive and Silent Watch.
This electric drive system, along with electronic 4-wheel drive and Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) dampers, provides instantaneous torque at the wheels.
Designed for stealth and flexibility, the vehicle includes front and rear electronic locking differentials, an anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, and traction control. These technologies facilitate stealthy ingress and egress in high-threat areas while also supporting high-energy-demand sensors and systems utilized by soldiers.
The Next Gen vehicle reduces fuel demand and maintenance requirements, thereby simplifying logistical challenges related to fuel, batteries, and vehicle parts.
Available in two-, four-, and six-seat configurations, the vehicle is optimized for multi-mission use, including command and control, counter-unmanned aerial systems, and casualty evacuation, among other critical operations.
