Gildred Racing team has embarked on a mission to reinvigorate the beloved classic Mini Cooper. Termed the “Super Cooper EV,” this innovative project entails the integration of Tesla’s electric powertrain components, courtesy of Electric Classic Cars, offering a contemporary spin on a time-honored favorite.
The heart of the transformation involves the complete replacement of the original drivetrain with Tesla’s battery pack and electric motor, sourced from models like the Model S or X. This bold conversion imbues the Mini Cooper with a robust output of nearly 300 horsepower (224 kW/304 PS) and an impressive torque of 250 lb-ft (339 Nm).
Efficiency meets nostalgia as the Super Cooper EV boasts a travel range of up to 150 miles (241 km), made possible by the integrated battery system. To cater to individual preferences, each vehicle can be tailored to suit the owner’s desires, including adjustments to acceleration responsiveness, throttle behavior, and regenerative braking settings.

The interior embraces the essence of its era, with cream-hued upholstery adorned with houndstooth accents. Classic aesthetics are upheld through the incorporation of new Smiths-style instruments, seamlessly integrated into the dashboard. Expanding on the original features, Gildred Racing offers modern amenities such as air conditioning and a premium audio system, all seamlessly harmonizing with the classic design.
Nathan Hoagland, the Mechanic and Fabricator at Gildred Racing, emphasizes the project’s essence: “This initiative encapsulates the epitome of a classic MINI experience, amplified by impeccable speed, refined handling, and a serenely quiet cabin for all occupants.
