Genesis, the luxury division of the Hyundai Motor Group, is introducing groundbreaking features for electric vehicle (EV) owners, including the world’s first facial recognition technology for its all-electric GV60 SUV. As the automotive industry moves towards an all-electric future, Genesis aims to play a pivotal role in shaping this transition.

In line with its commitment to becoming a 100% zero-emission vehicle brand by 2030, Genesis has announced its decision to cease production of new internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles starting from 2025. Since the launch of its first pure electric vehicle, the GV60 SUV, in 2021, Genesis has been expanding its presence in the EV market. The introduction of the Electrified G80 executive sedan and Electrified GV70 last year further solidified its position.

One notable achievement for Genesis is the production of its first electric car assembled in the United States, the Electrified GV70. Production of this model commenced earlier this year, contributing to the brand’s growing EV lineup.

Genesis has now unveiled new features for EV buyers, including the groundbreaking world’s first facial recognition technology. The GV60 SUV can be accessed and started solely by the driver’s face using the innovative biometric technology integrated into Genesis’s advanced keyless entry system. The system combines facial recognition hardware and software, utilizing a near-infrared camera and a sophisticated deep-learning processing controller. This eliminates the need for a physical key fob or even a smartphone.

The Face Connect system not only provides seamless entry to the vehicle but also automatically loads the user’s profile, adjusting settings such as the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, and head-up display preferences. Additionally, Genesis’s Digital Key 2.0 allows GV60 drivers to share access to their EV with up to three users, each having their own personalized profile accessible via a smartphone.

Enhancing safety and convenience, Digital Key 2.0 activates welcome lighting when the driver approaches the vehicle, ensuring visibility and security, especially during nighttime interactions within a one-meter proximity.

The 2023 Genesis GV60 showcases various comfort and convenience features. Its seats can fully recline, and the driver’s seat is ergonomically designed to enhance comfort during long journeys. The ambient lighting creates a pleasing atmosphere, and an air purification system is integrated into the dual climate control system, providing occupants with fresh and clean air.

Genesis has also made significant refinements to the seats and materials in the 2023 Electrified G80. Additionally, the updated Integrated Controller for the infotainment system allows for quick and easy access to various functions.

Key to the performance of Genesis’s EVs is the brand’s EV (E-GMP) platform, which incorporates an 800-V electrical system, vehicle-to-load capabilities, and an efficiency-enhancing disconnector actuator system for all-wheel drive (AWD) models.
