Hyundai Motor has unveiled the Genesis GV90, an all-electric large SUV that becomes the luxury brand’s largest vehicle and expands its U.S. lineup to seven models. The up to seven-seat EV will be produced at a new Hyundai facility in Ulsan, South Korea, and is expected to go on sale in the United States early next year.
Genesis Expands Into Large Electric SUV Segment
The GV90 represents a new design direction for Genesis and will be the brand’s fourth electric vehicle offered in the U.S. Genesis expects the model to compete in the large luxury SUV segment against vehicles including the Cadillac Vistiq and Escalade IQ, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and Rivian R1S.
Hyundai has not yet disclosed U.S. pricing for the GV90. The company said pricing will be announced closer to the vehicle’s market arrival.
“Today marks a landmark arrival for Genesis and for the future of luxury mobility,” said José Muñoz, CEO of Hyundai Motor. “GV90 opens a new chapter for Genesis, building on our track record of bold innovation, elevated customer experiences, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”
Genesis has not confirmed whether the GV90 will also be offered with a hybrid or internal-combustion powertrain, as it does with some other models including the GV70 SUV and G80 sedan.
Two GV90 Configurations Offered
The GV90 will be available in two main configurations. The GV90 Neolun uses coach doors that open from the center of the vehicle, while standard GV90 versions use conventional doors.
A First Edition model will also be offered with special badging and upgraded interior materials including wool and cashmere.
The coach-door design is relatively uncommon in modern passenger vehicles because of the additional engineering requirements associated with vehicle safety. Genesis said it developed a structure that connects the doors to the vehicle body while maintaining its safety standards.
“Safety remains paramount in the GV90 Neolun, despite the absence of a [middle] pillar. Genesis engineered a new structure that seamlessly marries the doors to the vehicle body while maintaining the highest safety standards,” the company said.
GV90 Targets 490 kW of Electric Power
Genesis said the GV90 will use a new high-performance electric motor system capable of producing up to 490 kW, equivalent to about 660 horsepower, and 800 Nm of torque.
The company expects the electric SUV to deliver approximately 310 miles of driving range.
The GV90’s exterior incorporates a full-width dual-light design that converges toward the center of the vehicle. The styling was previewed by Genesis through a concept vehicle in 2024.
Production Planned for Ulsan
Hyundai Motor will manufacture the GV90 at a new facility in Ulsan, South Korea. The production location adds the flagship electric SUV to Hyundai Motor’s expanding EV manufacturing operations in its home market.
The vehicle is expected to arrive in the U.S. early next year. Genesis has not provided details on production volumes or whether the model will be offered in other markets at the same time.
Genesis U.S. Sales Continue to Grow
The GV90 launch comes as Genesis continues to expand its U.S. sales. The brand delivered 39,088 vehicles in the first six months of the year, approximately 5% more than during the same period a year earlier.
Genesis said it has recorded 22 consecutive months of year-over-year sales growth.
The new flagship EV enters the U.S. market as electric vehicle sales have faced a more challenging environment following the end of federal EV purchase support under the Trump administration, including incentives worth up to $7,500 for qualifying buyers.
