Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, has achieved a significant milestone in China’s booming electric vehicle (EV) market, with its all-electric GV60 winning the coveted “2024 SUV of the Year” award. The accolade was bestowed upon the GV60 at the Car of the Year awards in China, where over 40 journalists, including the editor-in-chief of major auto publications, served as judges, evaluating 80 different models.
The GV60, launched in 2021, has been a recipient of multiple awards, including the German Premium Car of the Year in 2023. Its latest triumph in China underscores its appeal and recognition in the world’s largest EV market. In a competitive field that included notable rivals like the Lotus Eletre and Geely Galaxy L7, the GV60 secured victory with an impressive score of 186 points, surpassing its competitors.
Wells Lee, CEO of Genesis China, expressed satisfaction with the acknowledgment, stating that the award strengthens the Genesis brand’s standing in the Chinese market. He highlighted the recognition of the GV60’s luxurious design, exceptional performance, and advanced technology in China, a key region for EV adoption.
The GV60, based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform and equipped with a 76.4 kWh battery, boasts an impressive range of up to 645 km (400 mi) according to CLTC standards (294 mi EPA-estimated range). With features like 400/800V multi-input charging, the GV60 can achieve a 10%-80% charge in just 18 minutes. Additional functionalities include vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities and a digital key.
Available in China in two versions – Luxury and Ultimate Luxury – with starting prices at ¥ 286,800 ($40,000) and ¥ 352,800 ($49,200) respectively, the GV60 has resonated with customers, contributing to Genesis setting a sales record in the United States last year. In the U.S., the 2024 Genesis GV60 is offered in three trims, starting at $52,000 with a range of up to 294 miles.
