Genesis and Samsung Collaborate on the Innovative GV90 Electric SUV, Emphasizing Advanced Technology

Genesis, the renowned automaker, is set to make a significant leap in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the introduction of its largest EV model to date, the GV90. In a rare and groundbreaking collaboration, Hyundai Motor Group has joined forces with Samsung to equip the GV90 with the latest technology and software, making it the flagship electric SUV for the brand.

The GV90 is part of Hyundai’s ambitious next-gen lineup, which boasts a new dedicated platform, cutting-edge batteries, and enhanced production capabilities resulting from a substantial KRW 109.4 trillion ($85B) investment over the next decade.

Up until now, Hyundai’s electric models have been based on the E-GMP platform, which includes the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60. However, the company is embarking on a new chapter with the introduction of the Integrated Modular architecture (IMA), which will supersede the E-GMP models, offering significant advancements.

The IMA platform is ingeniously designed to cater to a wide range of vehicle classes, encompassing not only mid-size SUVs but also small and large SUVs, pickup trucks, and even flagship models from the esteemed Genesis brand.

A recent report from South Korea’s ET News indicated that Hyundai is finalizing the development of the IMA platform, which may include a remarkable 113.2 kWh battery pack. If confirmed, this capacity would be among the highest in mass-produced passenger EVs, surpassing even the likes of the Mercedes Benz EQS, Tesla Model S, and Kia EV9, potentially providing an extraordinary range of nearly 500 miles (800 km).

Beyond pushing the boundaries of battery technology, Hyundai has also formed a powerful alliance with other South Korean industry leaders, including Samsung, SK, and LG, with the shared goal of propelling EV sales in the region.

One of the most exciting features of the Genesis GV90 is its integration of Samsung Electronics’ cutting-edge “Exynos Auto V920” semiconductor. This powerful processor promises an immersive driving experience with advanced driver-assist features, a state-of-the-art digital cockpit, and functional safety capabilities.

Thanks to the Exynos Auto V920’s impressive 10 CPUs, performance is significantly boosted by up to 70% compared to previous generations. Additionally, the latest processing unit boasts a 270% improvement in NPU performance, making it a vital component for AI-driven functionalities.

In a noteworthy first for the Hyundai Motor Group, the Genesis GV90 will be the first model to utilize Samsung Electronics semiconductors. Furthermore, Samsung Display will supply the OLED, another exciting milestone for Hyundai’s foray into this advanced display technology.
