Geely Introduces Galaxy E5 SUV with 530 km Range Options and Starting Price of $15,750

Geely Auto Group has introduced the Galaxy E5, a new all-electric compact SUV, at a launch event in Guiyang, Guizhou province, China. The vehicle offers a starting range of 440 kilometers and is priced from RMB 112,800 (approximately $15,750).

The Galaxy E5 will be available in both left-hand and right-hand drive configurations, targeting global markets. In China, the SUV is offered in five variants, with prices ranging from RMB 112,800 to RMB 148,800. The model features dimensions of 4,615 mm in length, 1,901 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm.

All variants of the E5 are equipped with the same powertrain, delivering 160 kW of peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque, allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. The two lower-priced variants are fitted with a 49.52 kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC range of 440 km. The higher-priced variants come with a 60.22 kWh battery pack, offering a range of 530 km.

Geely’s Aegis Short Blade Battery, introduced in June 2023, powers the Galaxy E5. This lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery has an energy density of 192 Wh/kg and a cycle life of up to 3,500 cycles, equating to approximately 1 million kilometers with minimal impact on range.

Consumers who purchase the Galaxy E5 before October 1 are eligible for a RMB 3,000 discount on all variants.

The Galaxy E5 will compete with BYD’s Yuan Plus, which is priced between RMB 119,800 and RMB 147,800 and offers range options of 430 km and 510 km.

The Galaxy lineup, launched on February 23, 2023, aims to cater to the mainstream plug-in hybrid and pure electric vehicle markets. Geely plans to expand the lineup with a total of seven models by 2025, including four plug-in hybrids and three all-electric vehicles. The Galaxy L7 SUV and L6 sedan, both hybrids, were released earlier in 2023, along with the all-electric Galaxy E8.

Geely reported that the Galaxy range sold 16,704 vehicles in July, marking a 66.08 percent increase year-on-year and a 4.56 percent rise from June.
