Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) has produced its 30 millionth vehicle, marking the milestone with a ceremony at its manufacturing facility in Guangzhou while simultaneously highlighting production activities at its overseas plants in Thailand, Indonesia and Austria.

The milestone vehicle was a right-hand-drive GAC M8 plug-in hybrid electric SUV, which was presented to Thai customer Tony Jaa during the event. The model is marketed internationally under the name GN8.

Overseas Plants Mark Production Milestones

The ceremony was linked to several of GAC’s overseas manufacturing facilities.

The company’s plant in Thailand produced its 10,000th vehicle, while a new model entered production at its Indonesian facility. In Austria, series production of the Aion UT electric vehicle began at GAC’s plant in Graz.

GAC said the selection of the M8 plug-in hybrid as its 30 millionth vehicle reflects growing demand from international markets.

Export Network Continues to Expand

The automaker began expanding overseas in 2013 and has since established operations in 110 countries and regions.

According to the company, its international network now includes more than 746 sales and service outlets, seven overseas manufacturing plants and nine overseas parts warehouses.

International Markets Gain Importance

The production milestone comes as competition continues to intensify in China’s new energy vehicle market.

GAC said expanding overseas production and sales has become an increasingly important part of its long-term strategy.

The launch of Aion UT production in Austria also represents a further step in the company’s efforts to establish a manufacturing presence in Europe, where Chinese automotive brands continue to expand their market activities.
