GAC Aion has launched a new electric sedan, the RT Super, built on CATL’s Choco-SEB battery swap platform, as automakers and suppliers push to accelerate adoption of battery swapping in China.
The mid-size sedan starts at 88,800 yuan ($13,000) under a battery rental scheme, separating ownership of the vehicle body from the battery to reduce the initial purchase cost. Unlike offerings from Nio Inc, the RT Super is not available for full purchase with a battery included.
The model supports CATL’s Choco battery swap network, enabling drivers to replace a depleted battery in as little as 99 seconds. It is equipped with a 54 kWh battery pack supplied by CATL, offering a driving range of up to 505 kilometres.
In addition to swapping, the vehicle also supports fast charging, with the battery capable of charging from 30% to 80% in approximately 26 minutes.
The RT Super measures 4,865 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width and 1,520 mm in height, with a 2,775 mm wheelbase. It is powered by a single electric motor delivering 150 kW, allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds.
Inside, the sedan features the ADiGO 6.0 smart cockpit system and integrates Huawei’s HiCar 4.0 connectivity platform.
GAC Aion is also offering incentives including a lifetime warranty and lifetime data connectivity to attract buyers.
The launch reflects continued expansion of CATL’s battery swap ecosystem. The company plans to build more than 3,000 Choco swap stations by the end of 2026 and has outlined a longer-term goal of establishing 30,000 stations nationwide, including through partnerships and franchise models.
Other automakers, including Arcfox under BAIC, are also preparing to introduce models compatible with CATL’s battery swap system.
