GAC’s Aion brand made a significant move into the Indonesian market on June 22, unveiling its Indonesia strategy at a launch conference in Jakarta. The highlight of the event was the official entry of the Aion Y Plus into Indonesia, offering two trims: Exclusive with a range of 410 km and Premium with a range of 490 km. These models are priced between 415,000,000 and 475,000,000 IDR (25,200 – 28,900 USD).
Indonesia, being the largest automobile market in Southeast Asia, was a strategic choice for GAC Aion’s expansion. To establish a strong presence in Indonesia, GAC Aion has partnered with local dealer group Indomobil to establish a localized R&D, production, and sales system.
In line with its globalization strategy, GAC Aion has already entered other ASEAN markets, including Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Cambodia. The company plans to further expand its reach by establishing seven global production and sales bases in Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East, targeting deployment in 19 countries and regions worldwide.
GAC Aion’s Thailand factory is set to begin operations in July this year, marking a key milestone in its overseas manufacturing. Additionally, the company is constructing its second overseas factory in Indonesia, highlighting its commitment to the Indonesian market.
In China, the Aion Y Plus is available in 13 trims, priced between 99,800 and 189,800 yuan (13,700 – 26,100 USD). The car is built on the AEP 2.0 platform, measuring 4535/1870/1650 mm with a wheelbase of 2750 mm.
The Aion Y Plus boasts a striking exterior design, featuring headlights that resemble eyelashes, a spoiler, high-mounted brake light, popular taillights, and silver chrome trim. The interior is equipped with GAC’s ADiGO Space smart cockpit, a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel, a 14.6-inch central control screen, a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, and a six-speaker audio system that supports in-car karaoke.
Powering the Aion Y Plus is a front electric motor that delivers either 100 kW (134 hp) or 150 kW, with a top speed of 130 km/h. The car offers both lithium iron phosphate and ternary lithium battery packs, ranging from 37.9 kWh to 69.98 kWh, providing four CLTC cruising ranges: 310 km, 430 km, 510 km, and 610 km.
