French Government Grants 5.6 Million Euros to VoltAero for Development of Cassio 330 Hybrid Aircraft

VoltAero, a domestic hybrid aircraft developer, has received a substantial grant of 5.6 million euros from the French government. The funding will be allocated towards the advancement of the Cassio 330 hybrid aircraft, a significant milestone in the company’s ambitious plans.

The Cassio aircraft series, which VoltAero is currently developing, encompasses three distinct variants: the five-seat Cassio 330, the six-seat Cassio 480, and the twelve-seat Cassio 600. Each model is named after its respective propulsion power in kilowatts, showcasing the range of options available to potential customers.

Notably, the VoltAero aircraft represents an entirely fresh design rather than a modified existing model. One of its defining features is a hybrid propulsion system, incorporating a pusher propeller located at the rear of the fuselage. The aircraft’s slender body incorporates fixed auxiliary wings, known as canards, at the front, while twin booms support a raised horizontal tail at the aft end.

VoltAero’s CEO and Chief Technical Officer, Jean Botti, expressed his enthusiasm for the grant, stating, “This funding serves as another significant vote of confidence in VoltAero and our vision to develop the unique family of Cassio electric-hybrid general aviation airplanes, ensuring safe, quiet, efficient, and eco-friendly flight.”

The financial support provided by the French government stems from the ‘France 2030’ investment plan, a strategic initiative aimed at fostering sustainable transformations across key sectors of the French economy, including the aviation industry.

Earlier this year, VoltAero attracted Kawasaki as a strategic investor, further bolstering its prospects. The company has also commenced the construction of an assembly plant at Rochefort-Charente-Maritime airport, where production of the hybrid planes will take place in the future.

The financial backing from the French government, coupled with the partnership with Kawasaki and the establishment of the assembly plant, highlights the commitment of both public and private sectors in driving innovation and progress within the aviation industry. VoltAero’s Cassio hybrid aircraft series represents a significant step towards achieving safer, quieter, more efficient, and environmentally friendly air travel.
