French President Emmanuel Macron has said his country is ready to produce one million electric vehicles by 2027. Macron made the statement at the opening of the Paris Motor Show, which starts on Monday, October 17, 2022 and runs until Sunday, October 23, 2022.
Quoted from Teslarati, Tuesday (18/10/2022) Macron also stressed that the French people need to support their own manufacturers.
Although the price of electric cars is more expensive than fossil fuel vehicles, Macron also explained that the use of EVs will actually save more fuel.
āOver the past five years, we have distributed 1 million conversion bonuses to France, which not only concerns electricity, but has allowed us to reduce CO2 emissions and about 700,000 ecological bonuses have also been distributed. In total, we have supported more than 1 million households,” Macron said.
Meanwhile, Macron also sees that electric car manufacturers in Europe and Asia have moved quickly, thus making France need to support its own manufacturers.
āSome competing manufacturers, European or Asian, are moving very fast. So we can’t be slow. We have to massively support our manufacturers,” Macron said.
āOur goal is to produce 2 million electric vehicles by 2030, with various investments to create jobs in batteries or assembly. It may seem ambitious, but I have faith in the excellence of our sector, in its managers and employees, and we can achieve it. We will reach one million electric vehicles produced in France by 2027,” he added.
