2022 Formula E World Champion Stoffel Vandoorne will be the reserve driver for Aston Martin’s Formula 1 Team in 2023.

Aston Martin has revealed that Stoffel Vandoorne will share duties with Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovich, who has been involved in Aston Martin’s car development program since September 2022.

Vandoorne also had to undergo an intensive simulation and development program at the team’s headquarters in Silverstone, England.

“I have watched with great interest how this team has grown and expanded its operations. I know how determined this team is to make progress in every area,” Vandoorne said on Aston Martin’s official website, quoted today, Wednesday, 2 November 2022.

Stoffel Vandoorne, 30, is a former Formula 2 GP World Champion. He made 41 Grand Prix starts when he was with the McLaren F1 Team in 2016-2018. The Belgian driver has been a reserve for the Mercedes F1 Team since 2019 while being a full-time Formula E driver.

Vandoorne will fight alongside Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso at Aston Martin from 2023. Alonso is also preparing to leave the Alpine team. Stoffel Vandoorne remains a Formula E driver with Team DS Penske in 2022/2023.
