Ford plans to double the production capacity of its F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck to 150,000 vehicles per year by mid-2023 in response to strong customer demand.
The decision to double production after receiving nearly 200,000 reservations for the F-150 Lightning. The F-150 Lightning truck itself has a base price of $39,974.
Increasing the number of production means more spare parts are needed. Ford said it was working hard with major suppliers to increase the capacity of parts needed for electric vehicles, including battery cells, battery trays and electric drive systems.

Development of the F-150 Lightning continues to progress. The company said that this week the F-150 Lightning entered its final pre-production phase before heading to mass production later this year.
Trucks at this production level will be used for testing. Ford targets deliveries of the first F-150 Lightning and F-150 Lightning Pro to commercial customers to begin this spring.
Ford had previously announced it would spend more than $30 billion on electric vehicles by 2025.
