Ford has started dispatching a new adapter for electric vehicle (EV) owners in the U.S. and Canada, providing access to approximately 17,800 Tesla Supercharger stations, the automaker confirmed. The move is part of Ford’s ongoing effort to facilitate timely access to Tesla’s extensive charging network for its EV customers.
The new Ford-branded adapter is available at no additional cost for Ford EV owners awaiting their initial complimentary adapter, which Ford began distributing earlier this year. “To continue accelerating access to the Tesla Supercharger Network for Ford electric vehicle customers, Ford will start shipping a new Ford-branded complimentary adapter to customers as of October 31,” the company said in a statement, adding that it will also support future DC fast-charging networks using North American Charging Standard (NACS) connections.
This new adapter release is unrelated to an earlier model flagged by Ford over concerns about “reduced charging speeds over time” or potential port damage. That previous adapter issue was addressed under Ford’s Power Promise customer satisfaction initiative, while the latest adapter distribution is focused on expanding access to Tesla Superchargers across North America.
Ford became the first major automaker to secure access to Tesla’s Supercharger network in February, initially providing Ford EVs access to 12,000 Supercharger stations. That number has since increased to 17,800 through a broader partnership with Tesla, marking a significant boost in charging availability for Ford’s expanding EV customer base.
