The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) recently launched a fire truck that is believed to be the first electric-powered fire truck in the United States.
As reported by Carscoops, the RTX fire truck is produced by Rosenbauer, where they also claim the model is the world’s first electric-powered fire truck.
Prices for electric fire trucks start at USD 900,000, but LAFD has ordered a version with prices starting at USD 1.2 million.
According to LAFD Fire Chief Kristin Crowley, the use of electric-powered trucks is not only able to reduce noise, but also creates a healthier working environment for its members (because they no longer use diesel fuel).
This Rosenbauer RTX truck is equipped with a 483 hp power train and a 132 kWh battery capacity which is sufficient for approximately two hours of fire and rescue operations.
In addition to the typical fire fighting equipment, the Rosenbauer RT X is also equipped with an adjustable air suspension system capable of offering a ground clearance of 177.8 mm to 482.6 mm depending on terrain conditions.
The water tank capacity can accommodate 1,893 liters to 2,839 liters with a pump capable of pumping water with a capacity of 2,839 liters/minute to 5,678 liters/minute.
