Charge point operator Fastned has partnered with Places for London, the property arm of Transport for London (TfL), to install ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging hubs across London.
The joint venture will initially launch five sites by 2026, offering a total of 50 charging bays, with more sites planned as demand grows.
Fastned has confirmed that each location will feature at least six publicly accessible charging bays, including dedicated spaces for those with accessibility needs. The first sites, announced in 2023, include Hanger Lane, Canning Town, Tottenham Hale, Hatton Cross Tube station, and Hillingdon Circus.
In addition to these initial locations, the joint venture aims to install at least 25 more sites, potentially expanding to 65 hubs based on market demand.
The hubs will not only provide fast-charging options but may also include amenities such as restrooms and retail spaces, depending on the size of the location.
Mark Farrow, Director of Strategy and Planning at Places for London, highlighted the importance of these hubs in supporting the city’s goal of achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2030.
Tom Hurst, UK Country Director for Fastned, emphasized the role of these charging stations in facilitating London’s transition to electric vehicles, adding to Fastned’s existing operations, including one of the busiest charging hubs in Greenwich.
