Eve Air Mobility, an electric aerial vehicle (EAV) manufacturer, has received a $20 million investment from Nidec Aerospace, the company responsible for supplying its electric propulsion systems. This latest funding follows a $94 million investment round that included support from Embraer, a major investor in Eve Air.
Nidec Aerospace aims to expand its presence in industrial unmanned drones, next-generation hybrid aircraft, and future electric aircraft as part of its strategic growth strategy. The investment also aligns with Nidec’s plan to provide essential products like chargers tailored for EAVs.
Vincent Braley, CEO of Nidec Aerospace, expressed confidence in the aerospace strategy and strategic partnership with Embraer, emphasizing the global demand for electrified urban air mobility. Braley highlighted Nidec’s commitment to developing technology that supports cleaner, quieter, and more efficient air travel in the coming years.
Eve Air is advancing with the assembly of its first full-scale electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) prototype, marking a significant milestone in its development. The company has also developed a suite of services, including urban air traffic management software.
With pre-orders already in place for 2,900 electric flying vehicles, Eve Air recently collaborated with Embraer and Groupe ADP to prepare for EAV operations at Paris-Le Bourget Airport. Plans include upgrading airport facilities to accommodate training, maintenance, and ground services tailored for eVTOL operations.
Earlier this year, Eve Air unveiled a teaser video of its initial full-scale prototype vehicle, demonstrating its commitment to creating a low-noise, high-thrust aircraft. The company, originating from Embraer’s business and innovation accelerator, leverages Embraer’s expertise in aircraft development, design, and certification.
The Eve eVTOL vehicle, equipped with eight propellers for vertical flight and fixed wings for cruising, boasts a range of 60 miles without repositioning components during flight. Recent developments include a significant order from AirX Inc., the largest helicopter air charter service in Japan, signaling expanding global interest.
Eve Air is actively engaged in partnerships and initiatives across Japan, Australia, India, South Korea, and the United States, working closely with regulatory authorities to establish operational concepts. Plans for commuter flights in South Florida by 2026 and collaborations with airlines like Flynas in Saudi Arabia and Jeju Air in Korea underscore Eve Air’s global ambitions in the burgeoning eVTOL market.
The electric flying services planned for Florida are contingent upon approvals from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Department of Transportation, highlighting Eve Air’s adherence to regulatory compliance and safety standards in all operational expansions.
