eTrucker has released a major update to its charging navigation app for electric trucks, adding break planning, charging card recommendations, pricing information and trailer-detachment times to its route planning functions.

The app was developed by electromobility entrepreneur Tobias Wagner and his team after Wagner drove more than 200,000 kilometres across Europe in battery-electric heavy goods vehicles and identified difficulties in finding suitable charging locations for electric trucks.

App Adds Break and Route Planning

The updated eTrucker app allows drivers to incorporate breaks into their overall route plan, covering stops from 45 minutes to nine hours.

Users can select a starting point and rearrange intermediate destinations using drag-and-drop functionality. The app also accounts for additional time when trailer detachment is required or recommended at a charging location.

Where detachment is relevant, the system adds a time buffer to the journey calculation. The additional time is displayed on the map and included in the overall travel time.

Charging Card Recommendations Added

The update introduces location-specific recommendations for charging cards.

Drivers with multiple charging cards stored in the app can see which cards are suitable for a particular charging location, including alternative cards and their respective pricing categories.

The app now also displays pricing categories for charging stations, allowing drivers to compare charging costs and exclude more expensive charging locations from their route planning if preferred.

Fleet users can connect their accounts through a pairing code rather than a username and password. Once the code is entered in eTrucker Manager, the connected device can display the fleet’s pricing categories and charging cards.

Community Data Remains Part of the Platform

The eTrucker community can now submit feedback about charging locations directly through the app.

The developers use this feedback to update information about charging parks and expand the app’s database of truck-compatible charging locations.

The app uses TomTom Truck Routes through Google Maps for route planning. Michael Clarke, one of the app’s managers, said the service is costly but was selected because of its performance for truck routing.

The developers intend to keep the eTrucker app free. Clarke indicated that fleets seeking more price-focused charging management can use eTrucker Manager, with further details expected at a later date.

Germany Has Nearly 700 HGV-Compatible Locations

Data from eTrucker dated July 1, 2026, lists nearly 700 HGV-compatible charging locations in Germany.

The database includes 154 locations where trucks can charge without detaching their trailers. This category includes dedicated HGV sites and passenger-car charging locations with sufficient space for trucks.

The five operators with the most locations in this category are Aral Pulse Truck with 33, Aral Pulse with 17, Milence with 10, Shell Recharge with 10 and E.ON Drive with seven.

Seven of the 154 locations have at least one Megawatt Charging System plug. These include HoLa/Lipperland Süd, Aral sites in Buchholz, Hannover, Schnaittach and Rastow, as well as Energie Südbayern/Dettendoerfer near Langenbruck and ESG Solar near Kassel.

Charging Locations With Trailer Detachment

The eTrucker database identifies another 158 HGV-compatible locations where trailer detachment is recommended, although trucks can charge without detaching when sufficient space is available.

Aral Pulse PKW has the most locations in this category with 34, followed by EnBW with 21, Ionity with 11 and Autostrom Plus with nine.

A further 387 locations require trailer detachment, with nearby HGV parking available for leaving the trailer during charging.

EnBW has 64 locations in this category, followed by Ionity with 52, Shell Recharge with 50 and Aral Pulse PKW with 49.

The figures illustrate the different operating requirements that electric truck drivers need to consider when planning charging stops.

eTrucker Expands Across Europe

The app is also available beyond Germany, with coverage across several European markets.

In August 2025, the developers expanded coverage to Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Romania.

The latest update adds route planning and charging management functions to the platform while maintaining its focus on charging locations suitable for heavy goods vehicles.
