German electric scooter manufacturer Emco (Electro Mobility Company) has officially acquired the assets, sales, and service of the insolvent German electric scooter manufacturer Unu. Despite the takeover, the Unu brand will continue to exist, maintaining its presence in the market.

Unu filed for bankruptcy in November 2023, citing reasons such as increased material and transport costs, higher operational costs, and a sharp drop in demand due to inflation. However, the company continued its business operations as part of the insolvency proceedings.

With the acquisition, the insolvency proceedings have been concluded, and Emco is now named in the legal notice on the Unu website. Unu’s insolvency administrator, Gordon Geiser, expressed satisfaction with the successful conclusion, noting that despite a challenging market environment and the insolvency of numerous competitors, a viable solution was found for all parties involved.

Emco, officially Emco electroroller GmbH, not only manufactures electric scooters but also operates 480 partner workshops in Germany. Emco Managing Director Gavin von Schweinitz is optimistic about the future of the electromobility market, stating, “Unu not only stands for innovation and strong design but is also a strong and established brand. These attributes are a perfect fit for Emco, and we are determined to successfully integrate the Unu brand into our portfolio.”

Unu, founded by Pascal Blum and Mathieu Caudal, designs its electric scooters in Berlin. The company faced challenges even before its bankruptcy, including production suspensions during the pandemic and supply problems with semiconductors.

While Unu is known for its simple and modern scooter designs, Emco specializes in electric scooters with a retro design. Emco also serves mobility sharing companies, vehicle fleets, and delivery services. The acquisition of Unu’s assets by Emco marks a new chapter for both brands in the evolving electric mobility market.
