Embotech, Outsight, and Hesai Technology have formed a partnership to integrate lidar technology and perception software into Embotech’s Automated Vehicle Marshalling (AVM) system at BMW production facilities. This collaboration, internally known at BMW as Automated Driving In-Plant (AFW), aims to enhance efficiency and safety in autonomous vehicle operations within automotive manufacturing environments.
Embotech serves as the system provider for BMW’s AFW solution, utilizing real-time optimization technology. Outsight contributes a lidar software platform that monitors the ego-vehicle and surrounding obstacles, while Hesai provides high-precision lidar sensors for the AVM system. Together, the companies combine expertise in software, sensor technology, and system integration to improve operational accuracy and reliability.

BMW has already deployed its AVM system in multiple production facilities, including those in Dingolfing and Leipzig. In the Dingolfing plant, vehicles such as the BMW 5 Series and 7 Series travel autonomously from the assembly line to the finishing area, a route of over one kilometer that eliminates the need for human drivers. This process is part of BMW’s effort to reduce manual labor and enhance the consistency of quality assurance procedures.
The collaboration between Embotech, Outsight, and Hesai focuses on advancing lidar and perception technology for autonomous systems. Dr. David Li, CEO and Co-founder of Hesai Technology, commented, “Hesai is proud to partner with Embotech and Outsight to deliver lidar technology for BMW’s Automated Vehicle Marshalling (AVM) system.” Dr. Alexander Domahidi of Embotech emphasized the importance of the lidar software platform and sensors in supporting automated operations. Raul Bravo, President and Co-founder of Outsight, noted the growing maturity of lidar technology in improving industrial safety and efficiency.
