Elon Musk has hinted at the development of a larger vehicle aimed at big families, following conversations with prospective customers on X (formerly Twitter). The CEO’s comments suggest Tesla is considering expanding its vehicle lineup to cater to a market segment that currently lacks an electric minivan or spacious family-oriented options.
Earlier this year, Tesla unveiled its Robovan concept, designed for mass transport rather than individual family use, and Musk’s recent exchanges point to a potential solution for families seeking more room. Responding to a user who expressed dissatisfaction with the Model X’s capacity for their family, Musk simply replied “Ok,” after another user called for “big Teslas for big families.”

In a later conversation, Musk confirmed that the Robovan was in development but added that “some other things” are also in the works to address the gap in Tesla’s current offerings.
That’s great to see!
Tesla Robovan is in development. Some other things too.

The Model X, Tesla’s largest vehicle currently available, seats up to seven passengers but remains costly, while the Model Y’s smaller third row is best suited for children, leaving many large families with limited options.
Musk’s latest remarks suggest that Tesla is exploring ways to fill this gap by introducing a vehicle designed specifically for larger families, a market that remains underserved in the EV space.
With multiple new vehicles expected to be released by Tesla in 2025, these models will likely combine features from existing platforms as well as Tesla’s next-generation designs. Musk’s comments further indicate that the company is positioning itself to address broader family needs in the rapidly growing electric vehicle market.
