Volkswagen’s subsidiary, Electrify America, which manages a charging network for electric vehicles, has declared a hike in their charges. The changes will take effect from March 6 and will result in an increase in the cost per kilowatt, as well as per minute of charging. The new pricing will see the cost per kilowatt rise from $0.43 to $0.48 and per minute charging increase to $0.16 to $0.19 for up to 90 kWh or $0.32 to $0.37 for up to 350 kWh.
The increase in price, while not significant, equates to a 11.5% rise in the cost per kilowatt. This means that if you currently pay $35 for a full charge, you can expect to pay around $39 from March 6. The per-minute charge increase is 19% for up to 90 kWh and 16% for 90 to 350 kWh.
“Now more than ever, it pays to upgrade to a Pass+ membership,” Electrify America says. “Even if you only charge twice a month, you can still benefit from a savings of about 25% on charging.”
Pass+ members will be charged $0.36 per kWh, including a $0.05 increase and a $4.00 annual membership fee. This results in a 16.1% hike, despite the lower rate. The upgraded membership offers a $0.15 per-minute charge for up to 90 kW and $0.29 per-minute for 90-350 kW charging.
“We’ve tried hard to maintain our current pricing, but rising operational and energy costs have now made adjusting our pricing necessary.” says Electrify America, “We shall continue to maintain simple, uniform pricing across the country, and this adjustment ensures we can uphold our commitment to drive electric vehicle adoption and the future of electric mobility.”
