E.On, the German energy group, has announced an expanded collaboration with Alpitronic, a leading provider of fast-charging solutions. As part of this partnership, E.On has placed an order for an additional 4,500 fast charging stations from Alpitronic, solidifying their commitment to enhancing customer services and exploring megawatt charging capabilities.

The order placed by E.On encompasses the latest generation of Alpitronic hardware, which boasts charging power ranging from 50 to 400 kW. While the specific breakdown of the order has not been disclosed, both companies anticipate that the charging stations will cater to a wide range of use cases, including workplace and retail charging, ultrafast charging on highways, and megawatt charging for heavy commercial vehicles. The delivery of these stations is expected to be completed by 2025, enabling E.On to meet the demands of their customer projects and facilitate public charging.

Beyond expanding the charging infrastructure, E.On and Alpitronic are also determined to enhance the overall customer experience at the charging stations. A key focus is on technical optimization of the vehicle-to-charging station interactions, incorporating a Plug&Charge approach. Additionally, all newly installed charging stations will offer ad-hoc charging via credit, debit, or Giro cards, ensuring compliance with Germany’s new charging station ordinance (LSV) requirements and other relevant markets.

The statement from E.On also highlights their plans to develop charging solutions for heavy commercial vehicles and explore future megawatt charging possibilities. Pilot sites for these initiatives are set to be established at various locations across Europe by 2024. E.On has secured production capacities from Alpitronic’s upcoming production lines in advance to cater to their truck customers.

While specific details regarding projects, markets, and clients for the rollout have not been disclosed, these targets are an extension of the ongoing collaboration between E.On and Alpitronic. In August 2022, E.On had ordered 2,000 ultra-rapid charging stations, forming a network that will span across Europe by the end of 2024. Looking ahead to 2026, E.On has plans to own 5,000 new high-power charge points, expand existing locations, and establish new hubs for public charging.

Philipp Senoner, CEO and co-founder of Alpitronic, expressed his satisfaction with the growth of the partnership with E.On over the years. He emphasized the reliability, efficiency, and forward-looking nature of Alpitronic’s hypercharger product line, which has been instrumental in expanding the charging infrastructure throughout Europe in collaboration with E.On.

Alpitronic, headquartered in Bolzano, Italy, is widely recognized for its expertise in fast-charging solutions. Under this expanded collaboration, E.On will deploy Alpitronic’s Hypercharger HYC150 (featuring 1x 150 kW or 2x 75 kW) and the Hypercharger HYC300. In the future, E.On customers will also have access to the new HYC400, capable of delivering outputs of up to 400 kW, as well as the HYC50, the first wall-mountable 50 kW charger.

Patrick Lammers, a member of the E.ON Board of Management responsible for the customer solutions business, emphasized the significance of their longstanding and successful partnership with Alpitronic in serving both private and corporate clients. Lammers highlighted that this collaboration enables them to further drive the expansion of the European charging infrastructure, ultimately contributing to greater climate protection in the transportation sector.
